February Harvest: Jerusalem Bids Farewell to a Month Burdened by Israeli Violations

In February, Israeli authorities continued to perpetrate violations against Palestinian citizens and religious sites in Jerusalem, with a notable incident occurring on the first day of Ramadan.

Throughout February, Israeli occupation authorities maintained a relentless pattern of violations against both Palestinian residents and Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem. Notably, the beginning of Ramadan did not see a decrease in these actions. On February 18, coinciding with the first day of Ramadan, a young man named Nasrallah Abu Siyam was killed by settlers during an attack on his village, marking the first Palestinian martyr in Jerusalem for the year 2026. Additionally, a 15-year-old boy was critically injured by Israeli special forces' gunfire in the Al-Eizariya area, highlighting the ongoing danger faced by Palestinian communities.

The month also witnessed significant incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, where 4,882 settlers stormed the sacred site, participating in various religious rituals. The highest surge in incursions was recorded on February 17, when 720 settlers entered the compound, coinciding with the eve of the Hebrew month. These incursions are a source of growing tension and unrest, as they often lead to clashes and further violence against the Palestinian population.

The situation in Jerusalem remains precarious as these violations not only undermine the sanctity of the religious sites but also exacerbate the already tense atmosphere between Palestinian residents and Israeli authorities. The continuing aggression raises concerns over the protection of human rights and the fragility of peace in the region, especially with the upcoming observances of significant religious periods for both communities.
