A slow vehicle march demands the restoration of the direct Burgos-Madrid train

A slow vehicle march is being organized to demand the reopening of the direct Burgos-Madrid train service, which was closed in 2012 following a series of accidents.

This Sunday, a group in Burgos is organizing a slow vehicle march to demand that the Ministry of Transport restore the direct train line between Burgos and Madrid. This line, which was closed in 2012 due to several accidents and a tunnel collapse, has been a point of contention for local residents. The event is being backed by the Sociedad Civil Burgalesa (Socibur), an organization that has been advocating for improved infrastructure and economic development in the region for the past eight years.

The march is set to commence at 11:00 AM from Firestone in the Gamonal district, headed towards Lerma, where a manifesto will be read at Plaza Mayor at noon. This will mark a significant escalation in their long-standing campaign, as the group has been assembling every Saturday in front of the Government Sub-delegation in Burgos to voice their demands. The restoration of the train line is seen as essential for the economic growth and connectivity of Burgos with the capital, which could potentially enhance regional development.

Participants are expected to express their frustrations over the ongoing lack of direct transport links to Madrid and highlight the safety concerns that led to the line's closure. The event underscores the residents’ commitment to reclaiming lost public transport services and aims to influence government policy towards improving rail connectivity in the region.
