KAIROS No. 3 launch postponed just before takeoff due to unexpected spring-like weather

The launch of the KAIROS No. 3 rocket has been postponed due to unexpected weather conditions, frustrating many spectators who were eagerly waiting.

On the morning of the 1st, the planned launch of the KAIROS No. 3 rocket by the space development venture Space One was unexpectedly postponed at the Spaceport Kii in Kushimoto, Wakayama Prefecture. The wind conditions at altitude were different from what had been anticipated, leading to the last-minute cancellation of the launch. Many spectators who had been eagerly anticipating this moment expressed their disappointment but also hoped for the next opportunity.

This postponement marks the second delay for the KAIROS No. 3, following a rescheduling from its original launch date of February 25. Space One has indicated that they are adjusting plans for the next launch attempt to take place after the 4th of this month. Despite the setback, around 700 attendees at the official viewing area established at the former Urakami Elementary School in Nachikatsuura waited for the announcement, which came around 10:38 AM, confirming the cancellation.

Spectators included a father and his son who had eagerly created a handmade hat resembling the rocket's nose and had traveled four hours by train from Wakayama City. A disappointed father expressed hope for the future, saying he had believed today would be the day they could finally see the launch. Another young attendee also shared feelings of disappointment but remained optimistic about future attempts, highlighting the community's enthusiasm and support for local space endeavors.
