Pakistani drone intrudes across the LoC in Poonch, Indian Army retaliates with firing
A Pakistani drone crossed into Indian territory in Poonch district, prompting the Indian Army to fire upon it and force it to retreat.
In Poonch district near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, a Pakistani drone was detected crossing into Indian territory, leading to a retaliatory response from Indian Army personnel stationed in the Digwar area. The incident occurred early Sunday morning, at approximately 6:10 AM, when soldiers noticed suspicious drone activity and opened fire, discharging over a dozen rounds to compel the drone to return to its original location. Military officials reported that although the drone evaded the initial gunfire, it eventually retreated towards Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) after hovering in the air.
This incident marks the second time within three days that drone activity from across the border has been observed in the area, necessitating robust countermeasures from the Indian Army. On February 27, a similar drone intrusion was also dealt with by military forces in the same region, highlighting an alarming pattern of drone incursions. The situation is considered highly sensitive from a security perspective, as drones are frequently used for smuggling weapons, narcotics, or conducting surveillance activities across borders.
In the aftermath of the drone sighting, Indian security forces have launched a search operation throughout the vicinity to ensure that no further intrusions occur and to assess any potential threats from drone usage. This increasing frequency of drone activity poses serious questions regarding border security and necessitates heightened vigilance from Indian armed forces in the region, especially in light of ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.
