Such cottages are now available for 150,000 euros - one thing is especially hoped for

The demand for summer cottages in Finland is increasing, with the average sale price rising to 151,000 euros in January compared to last year.

According to property brokerage firm Sp-Koti, the market for summer cottages in Finland has briskly picked up compared to the previous year, with January's average sales price reported at 151,000 euros. Many buyers are particularly interested in the location and features like waterfront access. While various types of cottages have been on the market for around 150,000 euros in regions such as the archipelago of Southwest Finland and along the shores of Saimaa, it appears that the summer cottage market may only see a significant boost as spring approaches.

Real estate agents have noted a remarkable increase in sales of vacation homes, showing a 25.3 percent rise in January compared to the previous year. Despite a slower real estate market for regular homes, there is a resurgence of interest in summer cottages, as observed by Teemu Tuominen, a broker specialized in summer properties. He highlights that early indications suggest a more vibrant start to the year regarding interest in cottages, with transactions occurring despite potential seasonal slowdowns.

Tuominen notes challenges with bank financing over the last couple of years, which may affect buyers, yet the overall sentiment points toward a recovering market for summer homes in Finland. This shift not only reflects changing consumer preferences towards leisure properties but also hints at a broader economic recovery as people look for alternatives for investment and relaxation in nature as travel dynamics evolve amidst pandemic-related changes.
