Iran: Commander of the Revolutionary Guards Mohammad Pakpour and Secretary of the Defense Council Ali Shamkhani Dead
Iranian officials confirmed the deaths of Major General Mohammad Pakpour and Ali Shamkhani in a US-Israeli attack.
Official Iranian news agency IRNA reported the deaths of Major General Mohammad Pakpour, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), and Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran's Defense Council, as a result of American-Israeli strikes. Early reports from the Israeli Armed Forces indicated that seven members of the Iranian security leadership were killed, including Pakpour and Shamkhani. Pakpour had taken over leadership of the IRGC after the death of his predecessor in the 12-day Iran-Israel War in June 2025, while Shamkhani, a close adviser to the Supreme Leader, had previously been injured in the same conflict. Both were under sanctions from the U.S. Treasury.
