Travel expert Simon Calder predicts when BA, Etihad and Emirates flights will resume after Iran attack
In the wake of joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran, major airlines have suspended flights, leaving many travelers stranded in the region.
Following recent joint airstrikes by the US and Israel on Iran, several major airlines including British Airways, Emirates, and Qatar Airways have suspended flights to and from the Middle East. Travel expert Simon Calder has provided insights into when these flights might resume but notes that the situation remains highly unstable, complicating predictions. As a result of these cancellations, it is estimated that hundreds of thousands of travelers are currently unable to return to the UK and are stuck in impacted regions such as Dubai and Doha.
Besides the immediate impact on scheduled flights, airports in Dubai and Doha have completely halted operations amid fears of ongoing conflict, especially after Iranian retaliatory strikes targeted US bases in Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, and Kuwait. British Airways has announced that all flights to destinations like Tel Aviv and Bahrain have been cancelled until at least March 3. This uncertainty continues to affect travel plans, leaving many individuals unsure about when they can return home, highlighting the ripple effects of geopolitical tensions on international travel.
Experts and airline representatives are urging caution for travelers considering booking flights in the near future. Calder emphasized the unpredictability of the airline industry's response to the ongoing crisis, stating that there is a significant level of anxiety surrounding travel to and from the Middle East. As situations evolve, delta variants of travel restrictions may emerge, which could further complicate recovery in the aviation sector.
