Nettavisen: At least ten Norwegians in Iran

Norwegian authorities confirm that at least ten Norwegians are currently in Iran, with the actual number likely higher as registration is voluntary.

Norwegian foreign ministry spokesperson Emma Kwesiga Lydersen confirmed to Nettavisen that there are at least ten Norwegian citizens currently in Iran. She mentioned that the exact number may be higher since registration is voluntary via the Travel Ready app and the official travel registration website. This indicates the presence of Norwegian nationals in Iran amidst potential risks.

Lydersen also noted that there are no plans to assist Norwegian citizens in leaving Iran at this moment. The situation in Iran may pose significant security risks, which adds a layer of urgency for those remaining. The foreign ministry has been advising Norwegian citizens to depart from Iran since January 14, highlighting their concern for the safety and well-being of their nationals abroad.

In addition, the foreign ministry has revised travel advice for ten countries in the Middle East to advise against all travel, encompassing Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Iraq. This broad advisory reflects the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region and the potential risks involved with travel to these areas.
