Car ferry pulled off the ground and sets sail again in Nordland
A car ferry between Skarberget and Bognes in Nordland ran aground but was later freed and continued its journey.
A car ferry, MF Lote, which operates between Skarberget and Bognes in Nordland, ran aground around 2 PM on Saturday. The vessel struggled to free itself and required the assistance of both a rescue boat and tugboats to return to safety. It was reported that the ferry was carrying eleven passengers and eight crew members at the time of the incident.
By late evening, the ferry was successfully pulled off its grounding and managed to dock at the harbor. Jan Petter Jagedal Thomsen, the regional manager for Fjord 1, confirmed via SMS to Avisa Nordland that everyone had disembarked safely before the vessel returned to its dock. The incident highlights the challenges faced by ferry services in navigating coastal waters, particularly in adverse conditions.
The timely response from rescue operations and tug support ensured that there were no injuries or significant delays for the passengers affected by the grounding. This incident is a reminder of the importance of maritime safety protocols and the need for constant vigilance while operating ferries in such geographic areas prone to grounding accidents.
