Kārlis Biķernieks, a multifaceted musician and artist commonly referred to as Labais Dāma, has died at the young age of 38. His friends announced the sad news on social media, marking the loss of a creative spirit who significantly impacted the Latvian underground art and music scene. Biķernieks was known for his experimental music and performances, which blended various art forms and resonated with many in the local community.
Born in 1987, Biķernieks studied visual communication at the Latvian Academy of Arts and philosophy at the University of Latvia. Throughout his career, he contributed to several underground music groups, including 'Origo Boys' and 'Tripple Sex,' showcasing his versatility as a musician, DJ, rapper, and street artist. He was also involved in theater and visual arts, collaborating with renowned artists and creative teams to push the boundaries of artistic expression in Latvia.
In addition to his music and performance work, Biķernieks co-founded the record label No Sex Just Talk and hosted a podcast for the gallery '427.' His recent exhibition titled 'Noslēpums' was featured prominently in 2024, underlining his enduring presence in the contemporary art scene.
