VIDEO | Karalis Rises to Second Place in the All-Time Pole Vault Rankings
Greek pole vaulter Emmanouil Karalis achieved a personal best by clearing 6.17 meters at the Greek Indoor Championships, placing him second in the all-time rankings.
In a remarkable performance at the Greek Indoor Championships, 26-year-old pole vaulter Emmanouil Karalis cleared a height of 6.17 meters, setting a new personal record. This achievement not only highlighted Karalis's athletic prowess but also elevated him to the second position in the all-time pole vault rankings, surpassing notable athletes such as Sergei Bubka and Renaud Lavillenie. His new record places him just behind the world record holder, Armand Duplantis, who has a remarkable best of 6.30 meters.
Karalis successfully cleared the 6.07-meter mark on his first attempt and decided to raise the bar to 6.17 meters. Although he initially failed to clear this height on his first try, he succeeded on his second attempt, showcasing both his determination and skill. After achieving this significant milestone, Karalis expressed his ambition to challenge the world record, aiming for a height of 6.31 meters, which remained elusive during the event.
Looking ahead, one of the most anticipated matches will occur on March 12, when Karalis faces Duplantis for the first time this season at the meet named after Duplantis in Uppsala. This upcoming competition promises to be an exciting showdown between two of the best pole vaulters in the world, as fans eagerly await their performances in the following weeks.
