Atromitos in the top eight

Atromitos achieved their second consecutive victory, defeating Panaitolikos 1-0 in the 23rd match round.

Atromitos secured their second consecutive win by defeating Panaitolikos with a score of 1-0 during the 23rd round of the Greek Super League. This victory allowed Atromitos to accumulate 27 points, pushing them ahead of Volos, who are set to play tomorrow against AEK, and placing them in the eighth position in the league. Meanwhile, Panaitolikos remains at 21 points from the same number of matches played.

In the first twenty minutes of the match, Panaitolikos showcased a stronger performance, creating opportunities to take the lead. Notably, in the 6th minute, following a mistake by Mansour, Machan entered the penalty area but was denied by the excellent save from Gugeshashvili. Similarly, when Stauropoulos made another error, Rosa seized the opportunity to shoot from long range, only to be blocked again by the Georgian goalkeeper. However, as the game progressed, Atromitos began to gain control and posed threats, particularly with a shot from Yubitana that narrowly missed the goal after a cross from Mounte.

The breakthrough came in the 41st minute when Mihorl executed a free-kick that the goalkeeper Koutserenko failed to handle properly, allowing Atromitos to take the lead. This victory not only boosts Atromitos' confidence as they rise in the rankings but also places pressure on Panaitolikos, who are unable to capitalize on their earlier opportunities and need to address their shortcomings in defense to improve their standings as they remain just above the relegation zone.
