Reactions to the Attack on Iran: 'Dangerous Situation' and 'Respect for International Law'

International reactions follow the recent military escalation between the US and Israel attacking Iran and retaliatory actions from Iran, expressing concerns and criticisms from various leaders and official bodies.

The international community reacted with increasing concern and criticism regarding the recent military confrontation between the United States, Israel, and Iran, which escalated on the 28th. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the military escalation in the Middle East, emphasizing that all member states must respect their obligations under international law, including the United Nations Charter. He strongly urged all parties involved to immediately resume negotiations to promote peace and security in the region.

Middle Eastern countries voiced strong criticisms of Iran, citing sovereignty issues following attacks from the Iranian side. Foreign ministries from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, and Kuwait issued statements denouncing Iran's actions as blatant violations of sovereignty. The Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry, self-proclaimed as the leader of the Arab world, also condemned Iran’s attacks on its own territory and others with the strongest possible language, highlighting a unified regional stance against Iran's recent military aggression.

Oman's Foreign Minister, who has been mediating US-Iran discussions, expressed disappointment on social media about the deteriorating situation, indicating that "active and serious negotiations have been hindered." The European Union's chief diplomat highlighted the dire circumstances in the region, stressing that protecting civilians and complying with international humanitarian law should be prioritized. Germany, among other countries, acknowledged that they had been warned in advance about the upcoming military actions, signaling a level of preemptive awareness within the international community regarding the escalating tensions.
