Svahn won ahead of the king
Swedish skier Linn Svahn triumphed in the sprint event during Vasaloppet week, dominating her competitors and showcasing her strong form ahead of the upcoming World Championships.
The Vasaloppet week is in full swing in Dalarna, Sweden, with the classic main event set to begin its 102nd edition on Sunday at 08:00. Concurrently, the world elite of skiing is gathered at Lugnet in Falun for World Cup competitions that also serve as a rehearsal for next year's World Championships at the same venue. A spring-like Saturday witnessed vibrant skiing conditions as the sprint race occurred with temperatures rising around three degrees Celsius.
In the sprint event, Linn Svahn demonstrated her prowess, establishing herself as a standout competitor. As she prepared for the quarter-finals, sunny skies illuminated the stadium area. Svahn captured victory in the Olympic-style sprint earlier in Tesero, resulting in a notable performance from Swedish competitors, where she secured gold ahead of teammate Jonna Sundling, who won silver. Maja Dahlqvist clinched the bronze, making it a triumphant day for Sweden.
Svahn's performance in Falun further confirmed her Olympic form, clocking in an impressive time that was 4.65 seconds quicker than the second-placed Nadine Fähndrich from Switzerland in the qualification round. Notably, Jonna Sundling, who was a silver medalist at the Games and won the sprint relay with Maja Dahlqvist, had to withdraw from the World Cup events this weekend due to illness, along with fellow athlete Ebba Andersson, indicating the challenges faced by the skiers amidst such competitive conditions.
