Last year's record subsidies for bike paths in the Plzeň region will bear fruit this year
Substantial subsidies for cycling infrastructure in the Plzeň region are set to enhance local bike paths in 2023, building on a record investment from last year.
In the Plzeň region of Czechia, substantial investments have been made towards the development of cycling infrastructure, with a record sum of 95 million Czech korunas contributed last year. This funding, along with contributions from various municipalities, raises the total financial commitment to approximately 120 million korunas. According to Vladimír Kroc, the regional coordinator for cycle path construction, these projects are scheduled to progress during this construction season, particularly focusing on critical areas near Plzeň and other larger towns.
Plzeň has already contracted builders for the construction of about two kilometers of bike paths in the outskirts of Koterov, aligning with the busy route number 9. This new development will follow the railway track and connect under the highway to an existing cycle path towards Starý Plzenec. Additionally, the city plans to erect a footbridge over the heavily trafficked Rokycanská street and another bridge over the Radbuzu River at the confluence with the Úhlava River, which will further complement the cycling paths being developed.
The ongoing investments and planned infrastructure showcase Plzeň's commitment to advancing cycling as a viable mode of transport within the city, promoting not only recreational activities but also a greener commuting option for residents. The completion of these projects is anticipated to significantly enhance the connectivity of the cycling path network, making it safer and more accessible for the community, while encouraging healthier lifestyles among citizens.
