Authorities Warn Lithuanian Citizens in Israel and Iran, Councils Raise Alert Level
Lithuanian authorities have issued safety instructions to citizens currently in Israel and Iran in response to heightened regional tensions.
Lithuanian officials have elevated the alert level for citizens residing in Israel and Iran due to increasing regional tensions and have provided clear instructions on actions to take while in these countries. Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of the National Public Health Center (NKVS), stated during a press conference that there are currently no reports of Lithuanian citizens being harmed. He confirmed that there are 219 citizens in Israel and 17 individuals with connections to Lithuania in Iran, underscoring the importance of safety amid the ongoing situation.
The guidelines urged those in Israel to heed local authorities' directives and to stay put in safe locations rather than traveling around the country. Identifying the nearest shelter or safe space has been emphasized as a primary concern for those affected. In contrast, for Lithuanian citizens in Iran, Vitkauskas stressed the urgency of seeking opportunities to leave the country, possibly heading towards Turkey or Armenia, given the precarious environment.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called upon all Lithuanian citizens currently located in Israel to register through the provided link, facilitating better communication and assistance if necessary. This proactive measure reflects Lithuania's commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad during times of international uncertainty, demonstrating a vigilant approach to public safety and welfare in foreign regions.
