Ukraine sanctions Russian postal services delivering to occupied territories, Zelensky says
President Zelensky has signed a decree imposing sanctions on Russian logistics companies that deliver supplies to Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on February 28 the implementation of sanctions against ten Russian logistics companies responsible for delivering cargo to areas of Ukraine under Russian occupation. This move comes as part of Ukraine's ongoing efforts to curb the logistical support offered to Russian military forces, which are active in carrying out offensive operations across multiple fronts in the conflict.
The sanctions specifically target private Russian companies that facilitate the movement of goods into these occupied regions, thereby providing crucial logistical support to the Russian military. One of the key concerns highlighted by Vladislav Vlasiuk, the presidential representative on sanctions policy, involves the influx of microelectronic components from Western nations that could potentially bolster the military capabilities of Russian forces. This strategic initiative has also been communicated to Ukraine's Western allies, aiming to coordinate efforts against the supply chains that sustain Russian operations.
Among the notable companies sanctioned are the Russian DPD service and Freightlink, both of which are joint-stock entities registered in Russia. The ramifications of these sanctions extend beyond economic measures; they signify Ukraine's commitment to undermining the operational effectiveness of Russian forces in the occupied territories while simultaneously rallying international support in its defense efforts against the continued aggression from Russia.
