Earthquake in the Campi Flegrei, tremor of magnitude 3.5 felt also in Naples
A seismic swarm has struck the Campi Flegrei area with multiple tremors, the strongest being a magnitude 3.5, felt across Naples and surrounding towns.
The Campi Flegrei area experienced a notable seismic event, with residents reporting multiple tremors throughout this morning. The most significant tremor occurred at 11:19 AM, registering a preliminary magnitude of 3.5 at a shallow depth of 2.7 kilometers, with the epicenter in Pozzuoli at Pisciarelli. People reported intense and prolonged shaking, particularly in areas such as Pozzuoli, Quarto, and Bacoli, with disturbances also felt in various neighborhoods of Naples, including Bagnoli, Fuorigrotta, and Pianura.
Residents shared vivid descriptions of the experience, with one person from Quarto likening the sensation to being on a carnival ride, as the ground seemed to bounce beneath them. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, although local authorities are actively monitoring the situation. The city of Pozzuoli has taken to social media to assure the public that updates will be provided as the seismic activity continues to unfold.
Experts stress that these phenomena fall within the scope of the current bradisism crisis affecting the region. Lucia Pappalardo, the director of the Vesuvian Observatory, indicated that the ongoing ground uplift, which has been tracked since October, is part of the natural geological processes in this volcanic area. Authorities remain vigilant as they analyze the implications of these tremors for public safety and assess the geological activity that underpins the region's seismic trends.
