More than 60% of men consider their penis to be above average, shows a study from Bahia

A recent Brazilian study reveals that over 63% of men perceive their penises to be larger than average, while associations with positive self-image correlate to better erectile performance and self-esteem.

A recent study conducted in Brazil found that 63.2% of Brazilian men believe that their penis size is above average. It also indicated that 34% of the participants feel their size is average, while only 2.8% think they fall below this average. The study's reference size for average length is 13 cm in erection, which aligns with the most commonly cited figures in medical literature. This self-perception appears to play a significant role in men's sexual health and self-esteem.

The research, named "Male Genital Self-Perception: A Population Study," was carried out by scholars from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and the Bahian School of Medicine and Public Health. The findings were published in February in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, a respected publication within the field of sexual health. This study not only offers insights into men’s perceptions of their bodies, but also emphasizes the implications of these perceptions on overall health and performance.

The survey involved 106 men aged 18 and over residing in Salvador, Bahia, who participated through an online questionnaire accessible via a QR code distributed in public venues. The link between positive body image and aspects of sexual health, such as erectile function and self-worth, is particularly significant, suggesting that improving self-perception could have beneficial effects on men's sexual well-being.
