US attacks Iran... Government calls for efforts to ease tension
The South Korean government has urged all parties involved to work towards reducing regional tensions amidst escalating military actions by the US and Israel against Iran.
On October 28, the South Korean government expressed concern over the ongoing military actions by the US and Israel against Iranian targets, urging all parties to work towards de-escalating the regional tensions. In a statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they emphasized their continuous monitoring of the situation while ensuring the safety of South Korean nationals currently residing in Iran, with about 70 citizens reported to be present in the country as of last month. As of now, no harm has been reported among South Koreans due to the ongoing conflicts.
Additionally, Defense Minister An Gyu-baek instructed military authorities including the Cheonghae Unit to assess the situation regarding the attacks on Iran. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the safety of South Korean personnel deployed in the region while carrying out their missions. This statement underscores the government's commitment to protecting their citizens and responding to the escalating military threats posed by the U.S. actions in conjunction with Israel.
The U.S. President, Donald Trump, confirmed the initiation of military action against Iran, asserting that the attacks would target Iranian missiles, missile industry capabilities, and naval forces. This significant development has raised alarms globally, with the South Korean government actively participating in the diplomatic efforts to mitigate the tension in the region, as the ramifications of these military engagements could affect regional stability and international relations.
