Norwegian and several airlines suspend flights to the Middle East

Several airlines are suspending flights to Middle Eastern destinations following Israeli attacks on Iran.

In the wake of escalating tensions resulting from Israeli attacks on Iran, several airlines, including Norwegian Air, are suspending their flights to various destinations in the Middle East such as Dubai, Tel Aviv in Israel, and Beirut in Lebanon. Reuters reports that Norwegian has halted all of its flights to Dubai, reflecting the increasing concerns for passenger safety amid ongoing conflicts in the region.

Other airlines have also followed suit, with KLM of the Netherlands accelerating its plans to suspend flights between Tel Aviv and Amsterdam, initially scheduled for March but now enacted sooner due to the recent violence. German airline Lufthansa has canceled routes to and from Tel Aviv, Beirut, and Oman, while Virgin Atlantic has altered its flight paths to avoid Iraq's airspace due to safety concerns, affecting routes between London and Dubai.

Additionally, multiple airlines, including Wizz Air, Oman Air, and Air France, are reporting cancellations. In response to the rising tensions, the United Arab Emirates has temporarily closed its airspace as a precautionary measure. This significant disruption in air travel indicates how geopolitical conflicts can have immediate repercussions on international travel and the aviation industry, highlighting the fragile nature of regional peace and safety for airline operations.
