Olympic Participants Compete at the Mogul World Cup in Toyama, Spectators Say 'Seeing it Live is Different'
The Mogul World Cup has opened in Toyama, Japan, featuring Olympic athletes and drawing enthusiastic crowds who praised the live experience of the event.
The Freestyle Skiing Mogul World Cup has kicked off at Taira Ski Resort in Nanto, Toyama Prefecture, marking its first-ever event in the Hokuriku region. On February 28, Olympic medalists including Yoshikazu Horishima showcased their skills, drawing awe from spectators who noted that witnessing the action live was much more thrilling. The competition runs until March 1.
This event is the first competition following the Winter Olympics, where the initial rounds of individual mogul trials were held despite challenging weather conditions, including rain and soft snow that caused many participants to fall. Among the competitors were 35 men, including nine from Japan, and 29 women, with eight hailing from Japan. The stands were filled early by eager fans who cheered the athletes as they took to the course, and particularly loud applause was given to Hinako Tomitaka and Horishima, who had notable performances during the Olympics.
Attendee feedback highlighted the impact of the Olympics on local interest, with fans traveling from different cities to witness the competition firsthand. One male spectator from Takaoka described his excitement after being inspired by the Olympics, stating that the thrilling atmosphere of the event was well worth the trip. Another fan from Kanazawa remarked on the extraordinary speeds of the top athletes, which she had not fully appreciated until experiencing them live. On March 1, spectators can look forward to the dual mogul event, with transportation arrangements including shuttle buses from temporary parking areas due to limited access for cars.
