Are you planning to go to the mountains today? The conditions on the trails will surprise you
Rescue services in the Beskids have issued a warning about difficult trail conditions due to melting snow and ice, despite sunny weather attracting many hikers.
On Saturday morning, the mountains welcomed visitors with clear blue skies and pleasant temperatures, prompting many to plan weekend excursions. However, the Beskid Mountain Rescue Group has issued an urgent alert about the challenging conditions on hiking trails, warning hikers of a significant risk of avalanches in certain areas. While the beautiful weather is enticing, the risks associated with changing conditions should not be overlooked.
Temperatures in the mountains range from 3 to 6 degrees Celsius, yet the melting snow has led to muddy and slippery trails. Many areas, particularly in shaded forest sections, still pose hazards with ice and muck lingering. This combination of conditions creates a perilous environment for hikers, and they are urged to exercise caution. Interestingly, while hiking conditions are deteriorating, skiing slopes report very good conditions, suggesting a divide in experiences for outdoor enthusiasts. Nevertheless, rescue services are advising against taking unnecessary risks.
The situation is particularly critical on Babia Góra, the highest peak of the Beskids, where the trail has been closed due to safety concerns. Hikers and skiers alike are being reminded to stay informed about weather updates and to respect trail closures to ensure their safety in the mountains. This message underlines the importance of paying attention to local advisories while enjoying outdoor activities during transitional weather periods.
