On Saturday morning, a shooting targeted a security patrol in Omayyad Square, Damascus, according to reports from the Syrian news agency SANA. An anonymous security source indicated that the assailants fled in an unidentified vehicle, prompting ongoing investigations to uncover the details of the incident and the identity of those involved. In response, security forces rapidly deployed to the area, surrounding it and implementing necessary measures to ensure citizen safety and restore stability.
The security source also noted reports of gunfire exchanged in the al-Malki neighborhood of Damascus, linking it to the pursuit of the attackers. Despite initial speculation, a security source denied that the shooting was an assassination attempt on an intelligence officer, Brigadier General Abdul Rahman al-Dabbagh. Previously, in January, Syrian security forces conducted a pre-emptive operation in the al-Waroud neighborhood targeting an armed group that posed a threat to safety and stability, resulting in the arrest of three individuals involved in planning armed activities.
