Oil refinery on fire in Russia's Krasnodar Krai after drone attack
A drone attack caused a fire at an oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, resulting in a significant emergency response.
A drone attack led to a fire at an oil refinery located in the village of Novominskaya, situated in Russia's Krasnodar Krai. The Krasnodar Krai Operational Headquarters reported that the fire resulted from debris falling from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) during the attack. Fortunately, early reports from local authorities indicate that there have been no casualties resulting from the incident.
The fire quickly spread, covering an area of approximately 150 square meters, prompting a rapid response from emergency services. A total of 39 firefighters are currently engaged in tackling the blaze with the assistance of 13 fire appliances. The situation highlights ongoing tensions and potential vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure due to drone attacks, which have become more prevalent in recent conflicts.
Additionally, social media reports have pointed to the Albashneft oil refinery as the target of the drone strike. This incident follows claims from Russian authorities earlier in February regarding a large-scale attack on the region that resulted in damage to various facilities, suggesting a pattern of assaults that may aim to disrupt the operational capabilities of such infrastructures in Krasnodar Krai.
