Eva: Finnish Trust in the United States Has Collapsed

Trust among Finns in the United States has significantly declined, according to a study by Eva, with a notable perception shift towards viewing the U.S. as unpredictable.

A recent survey conducted by Eva reveals a significant decline in Finnish public trust towards the United States. The study indicates that perceptions have turned decidedly negative, with 73 percent of Finnish respondents viewing the U.S. as unstable and unpredictable, a stark increase from just 35 percent two years prior. This dramatic shift highlights a growing concern among Finns regarding the U.S.'s reliability and behavior as a player in global politics.

The research also shows an intensified perception of the United States as an expansionist power. More than half of the respondents, 51 percent, now regard the U.S. as a hegemonic force looking to expand its influence, representing a 27 percentage-point increase from the previous year's findings. This evolving view suggests a broader skepticism about U.S. intentions and actions on the world stage, particularly in light of its recent foreign policy decisions.

Furthermore, nearly half of the respondents (49 percent) attribute a significant shift in the United States' relationship with Europe to President Donald Trump, asserting that he has transformed the U.S. from a friend to an adversary in the eyes of many Europeans. This sentiment reflects a growing disillusionment with U.S. foreign policy and its implications for international alliances, with Finnish citizens feeling increasingly uncertain about America's role in global affairs.
