"Hard to Believe": The A1 Highway is a Graveyard of Cars
A Lithuanian politician has reported seeing over 20 vehicles with flat tires on the A1 highway near Ariogala, highlighting severe road conditions.
A Lithuanian politician has expressed disbelief at the severe conditions of the A1 highway, specifically near Ariogala, where he filmed a video documenting more than 20 abandoned vehicles with flat tires along the roadside. The politician, identified as V. Butkus, reported that this alarming situation occurred while driving towards Klaipeda and noted that the number of damaged cars was indicative of the highway’s poor upkeep, with many potholes also present in the area.
Butkus stated that he recorded the footage on a Friday night at around 8 PM and described the sighting of vehicles as 'a graveyard' of cars that have succumbed to the road's conditions. He conveyed concern over the situation, which has prompted frustration among drivers and raised questions regarding the maintenance of the highway. The Shiauliai County police have acknowledged receiving complaints about the road's condition, particularly with reports of potholes growing increasingly frequent since Thursday evening.
Authorities have recognized the stretch of highway near Ariogala as troublesome, with approximately 30 reports filed about the potholes and damaged cars. This incident fuels ongoing discussions about the need for improvements in Lithuania's road infrastructure, especially as the government and local municipalities are under scrutiny for ensuring the safety and reliability of their transportation networks.
