New species of octopus discovered in the Pacific that would only be found in a South American country

Scientists belonging to the Ecology and Biodiversity Department of Universidad Andrés Bello in Chile have announced the discovery of a new species of octopus in the southeastern Pacific. This finding marks the first of its kind in over 25 years, highlighting the critical significance of the region for international conservation efforts. In light of this discovery, supported by the Universidad de Concepción and the National Museum of Natural History in Santiago, there is now a call to establish new Marine Protected Areas to safeguard biodiversity and promote sustainable practices.
