Heikki Kovalainen, who has been part of Viaplay's Formula 1 team since 2022, will see an increase in his responsibilities this year, becoming more visible in international broadcasts. This change signifies Viaplay's strategy to enhance its F1 coverage and capitalize on Kovalainen's extensive experience with 111 GP starts.

In addition to his duties for Viaplay's Finnish F1 productions, Kovalainen will now also engage in international productions, allowing subscribers from other countries to benefit from his insights and expertise. Viaplay has confirmed that Kovalainen will be involved in 12 broadcasts throughout the season, where he will appear on-site for five of those events, indicating a significant elevation in his role.

Kovalainen's first assignment will be at the Canadian Grand Prix at the end of May 2023. With Tom Kristensen stepping back from his duties, Kovalainen looks forward to collaborating more closely with David Coulthard in these international expert roles. This transition reflects a broader trend in motorsports broadcasting, where networks seek to enrich their content with experienced figures.
