Ukraine has built huge defense lines behind the front – “Russian breakthroughs are now very unlikely”
Ukraine has established a massive system of defense fortifications behind its front line, making it extremely difficult for the Russian army to achieve breakthroughs.
Over the past year, Ukraine has constructed an extensive system of defense fortifications behind its front line, which significantly complicates any attempts by the Russian military to penetrate these lines. To breach the fortifications, Russian forces would first need to reach them, but they would have to navigate through a potentially deadly 20-kilometer-wide 'kill zone' controlled by drones. This area is considered no man's land, as it is dominated by a large number of drones targeting anything that moves within it.
The situation in the kill zone is critical, as individual soldiers face tremendous challenges in crossing through, let alone armored vehicles that would immediately attract attention from drone operators and become targets for missiles and artillery. According to Pasi Paroinen, an expert from the Black Bird Group that tracks the war, Ukrainian defense lines make it exceedingly unlikely for Russia to achieve breakthroughs. He emphasizes that while certainty is elusive in warfare, the strengthened defenses put Ukraine in a favorable position.
This development highlights the strategic measures taken by Ukraine to bolster its defenses amid ongoing conflict. The complexity of the battlefield and the sophistication of drone warfare are reshaping traditional military tactics and strategies for both sides, making straightforward assaults increasingly hazardous and less effective against well-fortified positions.
