Police links the attacks in Machala to disputes between Los Lobos and SaoBox
Explosive attacks in Machala are suspected to be linked to a conflict between the criminal organizations Los Lobos and SaoBox.
On the evening of February 26, two explosive attacks occurred in Machala, Ecuador, which authorities believe are connected to ongoing disputes between rival criminal groups operating in El Oro province. Colonel Renato GonzΓ‘lez, the commander of the National Police for Zone 7, indicated that the primary investigative hypothesis suggests these attacks were orchestrated by Los Lobos in an effort to undermine the SaoBox organization, associated with an individual known as 'Saoco.' This rivalry has escalated into violent confrontations, marking a concerning trend in regional crime.
The first attack took place in Urdesa Este, where unidentified assailants planted explosives at the front of a residence, leading to structural damage and impacting a parked white vehicle. Tragically, a 16-year-old boy was injured during this incident and was taken to a private clinic for medical attention due to multiple injuries. Almost simultaneously, another explosion occurred in a house on Manuel Estomba street, which further underscores the chaotic and dangerous situation unfolding in Machala as these groups vie for control.
The incidents reflect a broader pattern of escalating violence linked to organized crime in Ecuador, raising significant concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in addressing such threats. As authorities continue their investigations, the implications of these criminal rivalries suggest a potential increase in violence as different factions seek dominance, putting communities at risk and challenging police efforts to restore order in affected areas.
