Landslide hits RJ-130 in Teresópolis and section operates on half track
A landslide affected the RJ-130 highway in Teresópolis, leading to traffic restrictions and an emergency intervention planned for the area.
On the morning of Friday, September 27, a landslide occurred on the RJ-130 highway at kilometer 11, specifically in the Boa Fé area of Teresópolis, located in Brazil's mountainous region. Images from the site reveal that earth and branches have covered the roadway, and there is damage at the head of a nearby bridge. This disruption raises safety concerns for motorists traveling through the area.
The Department of Roadways (DER) reported that while the bridge's structure is not in immediate danger, the section of the highway is currently operating on a single lane. Emergency interventions have been planned for the same day to address the affected area. The road has been partially reopened with adequate signage to ensure the safety of drivers while crews continue to monitor the situation closely due to saturated soil conditions which may lead to further issues.
Furthermore, the DER noted that field teams conducted inspections of the site in the morning and found no significant damage that could compromise the bridge. The agency continues to keep a vigilant watch on that stretch of roadway, with teams ready to respond to any similar incidents that might arise because of the heavy rain and unstable ground conditions prevalent in the region.
