The Church's Kitchen receives leftovers from Frederik and Mary's canceled party

The Danish royal family donated leftover food from a canceled celebration to prevent waste.

Due to the recent announcement by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen regarding national elections, an official celebration scheduled at Christiansborg for members of the government, Parliament, and the European Parliament was abruptly canceled. The royal household faced the dilemma of dealing with a significant amount of food that had been prepared for the occasion. To mitigate food waste, various solutions were implemented to repurpose the food without it going to waste.

Most of the prepared food has been frozen for future use, and some items were returned to the suppliers. However, leftovers that were unable to be stored were donated to Kirkens Korshær, a charity that provides food support, emphasizing the royal family's commitment to reducing food waste even in light of such disruptions. The donated food primarily consisted of provisions meant for the staff at the event.

In addition to the food donation, it was noted that large floral arrangements prepared for the event will remain on display at Christiansborg, which is set to reopen to the public next Monday. This initiative not only reflects the royal family's efforts to address food waste but also keeps the spirit of hospitality alive through the exhibition of beautiful flowers for public enjoyment, reinforcing the connection between the monarchy and the community at large.
