Competence and loyalty to Oyo will determine successor, says Makinde
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde emphasized that competence and loyalty will be crucial in choosing his successor in 2027 during the 12th Omituntun Annual Ramadan Public Lecture.
In a recent address at the 12th Omituntun Annual Ramadan Public Lecture in Ibadan, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde articulated that the qualities of competence and loyalty to the people of Oyo State will be fundamental in determining who succeeds him in the upcoming 2027 elections. This declaration highlights his commitment to ensuring that his successor is not only capable but also deeply rooted in the interests of the stateβs citizens.
Governor Makinde further reflected on his tenure, noting significant accomplishments that were made possible by his loyalty to the state. He pointed out that his administration has cleared over N25 billion in gratuity arrears owed by past governments, demonstrating a clear focus on addressing previous governance failures. Furthermore, he stated that the monthly gratuity payment has been tripled from N1 billion to N3 billion, with the aim that no retiree should be owed gratuity by May 2027, showcasing his administration's commitment to the welfare of retirees.
Additionally, Makinde announced plans for further improvements, including the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport to an international status, marking another milestone achievement of his administration. This upgrade is expected to enhance the state's connectivity and economic prospects, indicating that his administration not only prioritizes immediate social needs but also long-term infrastructural development, ultimately setting a high standard for potential successors.
