The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that the military assistance provided by the United States government to Nigeria is free of charge and ensures that Nigeria's sovereignty remains intact. This clarification comes after the confirmation of the arrival of about 100 US military personnel and their associated equipment in Nigeria, aimed at bolstering the country's counter-terrorism efforts.

During a briefing on military operations in Abuja, Major General Samaila Uba stated that this deployment follows previous discussions between Nigerian and US officials, emphasizing that the support from the US is primarily focused on training Nigerian troops. Major General Michael Onoja added that the collaboration is routine and a necessary measure in the ongoing fight against terrorism, underlining that the US is invested in Nigeria's stability and security.

The announcement seeks to dispel any misconceptions regarding foreign military presence in Nigeria, highlighting that such cooperation is essential for the country’s defense strategy.
