The coalition council will meet on Wednesday: discussing the work of the spring session of the Seimas and the issue of the polygon
The coalition council in Lithuania is set to meet on Wednesday to discuss the work of the spring session of the Seimas, particularly focusing on the Kapčiamiesčio polygon law project.
On Wednesday, the Lithuanian coalition council will convene in the office of the Speaker of the Seimas to discuss important legislative matters for the upcoming spring session. One of the main topics on the agenda is the proposed law concerning the Kapčiamiesčio polygon, which has garnered attention among coalition members and the public alike. Orinta Leiputė, the head of the Social Democratic faction, emphasized that while the initial discussion will focus on spring session plans, the polygon issue will definitely be on the table.
The discussion regarding the polygon has been ongoing, as the vice speaker noted that prior conversations with coalition partners and meetings with the Minister of National Defence have taken place. Although no significant or urgent matters have arisen at this time, attention to the Kapčiamiesčio polygon is keen, especially given its controversial nature and mixed opinions from within the coalition regarding its establishment.
Last week, Remigijus Žemaitaitis, the chairman of the 'Nemuno aušros' faction, publicly expressed doubts about his faction's support for the creation of the Kapčiamiesčio polygon. The Prime Minister, Inga Ruginienė, has refrained from commenting on any statements from coalition partners, indicating a cautious approach to the upcoming discussions that may shape the political landscape concerning military and environmental issues in Lithuania.
