Agreement Reached in Private Social Services Sector Negotiations: Strikes Canceled
A negotiation result has been reached in Finland's private social services sector, leading to the cancellation of planned strikes.
In Finland, negotiations concerning collective labor agreements in the private social services sector have reached a successful conclusion, resulting in the cancellation of planned industrial action. The Finnish Union of Practical Nurses (SuPer) announced that the agreement was achieved among several negotiating parties, including the unions Erto, Tehy, and others involved in labor representation. This resolution is seen as a significant win for workers at a time when the social situation in the country is challenging.
Päivi Inberg, the president of SuPer, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, noting that it brings hope for reducing the wage gap between the public and private sectors in the future. The agreement is crucial for practical nurses in an increasingly difficult societal landscape and is anticipated to enhance working conditions and compensation. The response from the public and the workers’ community has been positive, with the quick resolution averting immediate strikes.
Prior to reaching this agreement, mediation efforts were ongoing, with a new proposal from the national mediator presented on February 24, just before the parties were scheduled to respond. Negotiations have demonstrated the ability of both the employer's association, representing the welfare industry, and unions to collaboratively work towards satisfying outcomes, showcasing the importance of dialogue in labor relations in Finland.
