The sharp BMW M2 is expected to receive all-wheel drive

The BMW M2, currently available only with rear-wheel drive, is anticipated to have an all-wheel drive version introduced later this year.

The BMW M2, the smallest coupe in the sports division of BMW M, is currently only sold with rear-wheel drive. However, it is expected that an all-wheel drive version will be released later this year, aligning the M2 with the variety of configurations already available in the M3, M4, and M5 models. Reports have emerged, particularly noted by Autocar, that the preparation for the M2 version, designated xDrive, was mentioned on the American website of BMW, indicating an expansion of the model's offerings.

The all-wheel drive version will not replace the existing rear-wheel drive model but will be an additional option for consumers. This new configuration is expected to maintain the six-cylinder engine that powers the current M2, which will be paired exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission. In contrast to the rear-wheel drive variant that offers a manual six-speed transmission option, the all-wheel drive version will intend to provide enhanced driving capabilities suited for various conditions.

Furthermore, the all-wheel drive system is anticipated to be specially tuned by the M division, emphasizing rear-wheel drive dynamics. There will also be new driving modes available, allowing drivers to choose to power only the rear wheels if desired. While the exact performance specifications and dynamic parameters have yet to be disclosed, the addition of this all-wheel drive version signifies BMW's commitment to catering to a wider range of performance enthusiasts within the sports coupe market.
