FG seeks Canadian tech, investment to fast-track mining reforms
The Nigerian government is seeking Canadian technology and investment to enhance its mining sector reforms.
The Nigerian Federal Government is actively pursuing ways to revitalize its mining sector by leveraging Canadian expertise and technology. Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, emphasized the importance of this collaboration during a meeting with Canadian High Commissioner Pasquale Salvaggio in Abuja. He highlighted that the Nigerian government is ready to tap into Canada's advanced mining technologies to improve operations and productivity in the sector.
Alake's statement reflects a broader strategy to attract more foreign investment into Nigeriaβs mining industry, aiming to integrate international best practices and foster sustainable growth. The government believes that enhancing bilateral relations with Canada could lead to significant investment opportunities and improvements in operational standards within the local mining industry. The collaboration is seen as a vital step to unlock the economic potential of Nigeria's vast mineral resources.
Furthermore, Alake also noted the historical ties between Nigeria and Canada, referencing past support Canada offered Nigeria during its pro-democracy movements post-1993 election annulment. This backdrop adds a layer of diplomatic goodwill to the ongoing discussions on mining sector reforms, implying that the relationship is not only about business but also about mutual support in key socio-political issues.
