A truck was swept away by floodwaters on BR-423 in Jupi, Pernambuco, after heavy rains, but the driver was rescued unharmed.
In the early hours of Friday (27), a truck was swept away while attempting to cross a bridge over the Chatá River along BR-423 in the municipality of Jupi, Pernambuco. This incident followed significant rainfall that caused a rapid increase in the river's volume. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, although the driver had to be rescued from the truck's cabin after being trapped inside during the flood.
Social media footage captured the intense current engulfing the highway and the truck submerged underwater, highlighting the severity of the flooding in the area. The heavy rains that affected the Southern Agreste region have been causing disruptions to roads and urban areas since the night prior. The conditions led to the temporary closure of the BR-423 near Jupi as water levels overtook the roadway, creating hazardous travel conditions for motorists.
According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the BR-423 was fully blocked for both directions by around 6:20 AM on Friday due to high water levels. Traffic in the region faced significant challenges until the conditions improved, highlighting the broader impact of the severe weather on transportation and community safety.
