According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, more than 1,700 Africans are fighting for Russia in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. These individuals are being lured into combat without any military background or proper training. Ukrainian authorities report that this recruitment is part of a Russian strategy involving deceit, aimed at drawing African citizens into what they describe as a 'deadly war.' Sybiha emphasized the troubling nature of this recruitment tactic during a press conference, asserting that these individuals have fallen victim to manipulation.

Ghana's Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who was also present at the press conference, confirmed that many of these African citizens are being recruited through promises of regular employment. This recruitment process reportedly takes place through the dark web and other illicit channels. Ablakwa's statements underscore the urgent need to address the misinformation and exploitation faced by vulnerable populations in African countries who are seeking better opportunities.
