US ultimatum: zero nuclear. Iran opens up (but takes time)
The US and Iran are engaged in diplomatic talks to avoid a military confrontation following a substantial American deployment in the Middle East.
The United States and Iran are attempting a last diplomatic effort to prevent military escalation after the US ramped up its military presence in the Middle East. On February 19, former President Donald Trump mentioned an ultimatum of 10-15 days for deciding whether a viable agreement could be reached with Tehran. The parties resumed talks mediated by Oman in Geneva, with the first round lasting three hours at the Omani ambassador's residence, followed by further consultations in the afternoon. Omanโs Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, reported that negotiators showed unprecedented openness to new and creative ideas after engaging with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
