The boss ready for Vasaloppet: "It wouldn't have happened without the encouragement of others"

A group of twelve executives, including Barncancerfonden's secretary general, are preparing to compete in the Vasaloppet ski race, overcoming training challenges together.

In May, a unique initiative began when twelve executives, split evenly between men and women, teamed up with the CEO of Vasaloppet to embark on a training journey. Their goal is to complete the esteemed 90-kilometer ski race from Sälen to Mora. Among the participants is Ola Mattsson, the secretary general of Barncancerfonden, who reflects on the journey leading up to this weekend's event and the camaraderie that has developed within the group.

Mattsson shared insights on his training progress, noting that prior to the New Year, he was mostly using a ski machine due to a lack of snow in Stockholm. However, as winter progressed, he was able to get out on real snow at local ski areas, which he described as "wonderful." He estimates that he has skis about 300 kilometers, allowing him some reassurance ahead of the competition. Nonetheless, he admits to feeling nervous as the start date approaches, yet his recent participation in the Engelbrektsloppet has provided him with a confidence boost.

As the executives prepare for their competition, there is a palpable sense of community and support among the participants. The event showcases not only the physical challenges of long-distance skiing but also emphasizes the importance of teamwork and motivation. This initiative serves as an inspiring example of leaders stepping out of their comfort zones while supporting each other in their athletic endeavors towards the Vasaloppet, a significant sporting tradition in Sweden.
