After the tramway renewal, Tallinn will lose the Lubja stop

Tallinn is set to lose the Lubja tram stop as part of essential renovation works to replace old tracks near the city center, affecting traffic from March 7 to May 31.

Tallinn's public transportation authority has announced that the Lubja tram stop will be removed following an important upgrade and replacement of the aging tracks located in a curve near the Tartu road. The renovation is scheduled to take place from March 7 until May 31, during which significant changes to traffic regulations in the area will be implemented. City officials emphasized that these upgrades are necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of tram services in the city.

Joel Jesse, the Deputy Mayor for Tallinn’s transportation sector, noted that the work is crucial to maintain safe tram operations. To minimize disruption for commuters, Tallinn plans to use mobile track-changing devices for the first time, allowing tram traffic in both directions to be temporarily directed onto a single lane that will be managed by traffic lights. This innovative approach is expected to reduce the inconvenience to daily traffic, facilitating efficient and prompt completion of the renovation work.

In preparation for the works, residents and commuters are advised that, on three weekends during the renovation period, buses will replace trams for passenger transport. This substitution will take place on March 7-8, April 18-19, and May 30-31, with tram line No. 2 operations shortened to terminate at the Vanasadam stop instead of the usual endpoint, effectively rerouting trams to ensure continuous commuter service while the works are ongoing.
