Sent thousands of emails: woman stalked Supercell millionaire Ilkka Paananen
Ilkka Paananen, a prominent figure in gaming, was stalked by a woman who sent him over 2,000 disturbing emails and violated a restraining order.
Ilkka Paananen, the CEO of the successful Finnish gaming company Supercell, became a victim of stalking by a woman in her forties, who reportedly sent him over 2,000 emails that were characterized as disturbing, offensive, and threatening. The woman's actions escalated to the point where she violated a restraining order multiple times and even made threats against Paananen's life. She admitted to her crimes, which occurred between May and August 2024, and acknowledged that Paananen had valid reasons to fear for his personal safety.
The South Ostrobothnia District Court found the woman guilty on three charges: stalking, violating a restraining order, and making illegal threats. As a result, she was sentenced to 60 days of conditional imprisonment, with her probation period ending in August 2027. Additionally, she was ordered to pay an 80-euro crime victim fee to the state, highlighting the legal consequences of her actions.
Paananen, aged 47, is well-known not only for his role at Supercell, one of Finland's most successful game companies, but also as a significant entrepreneurial figure in the tech industry. This case sheds light on issues of personal safety and legal protection for individuals in prominent positions, as well as the serious implications of stalking and harassment in the digital age.
