Tutins has received clearance for work with state secrets
Politician Jānis Tutins has obtained clearance to work with state secrets after replacing the suspended chairman of the Rēzekne council, Aleksandrs Bartaševičs.
Jānis Tutins, who is currently fulfilling the duties of the suspended chairman of the Rēzekne council, Aleksandrs Bartaševičs, has received official clearance to work with state secrets, as reported by the LETA agency. The local government has not disclosed whether this clearance is valid for the maximum period allowed, citing the sensitivity of the information involved. Meanwhile, the State Security Service's decision regarding the clearance for the council's director, Jevgenija Kuščaja, is still pending.
Previously, it had been established that the deputy chairman of the council, Aleksejs Stecs, had also obtained authorization to access state secrets. Bartaševičs was suspended by the Minister of Smart Governance and Regional Development, Raimonds Čudars, due to the absence of the necessary special permission to access state secrets. The minister clarified in his order that the suspension should not be viewed as a punishment or a final decision regarding the loss of office, indicating that further developments regarding the clearance are expected.
This situation highlights ongoing administrative changes within the Rēzekne municipality and raises questions regarding the oversight and processes for authorizing access to sensitive government information. The resolutions and appointments in question may also suggest the importance of maintaining security standards within local government operations, which could have broader implications for how local councils manage state secrets and the individuals who are entrusted with them.
