Stam1na's Antti Hyyrynen Aims to Save Lappeenranta Cultural Venue

Antti Hyyrynen of the metal band Stam1na is part of a new company planning to revive Lappeenranta's cultural venue, Nuijamies, after its bankruptcy last year.

Nuijamies, a cultural venue in Lappeenranta, declared bankruptcy last year but has since been acquired by a new company, Nuijamies Venue Oy. The new company has already secured its first performers and aims to reopen the facility by March-April. In addition to current plans, they have also scheduled events for the upcoming autumn and winter seasons.

Despite still being a work in progress, several repairs are underway, particularly following a pipe incident in December. Currently, the venue lacks district heating but has managed to maintain a temperature of around ten degrees Celsius with the help of heaters. Electrical systems and lighting are operational, yet the upgrade of the event technology remains ongoing.

One of the six owners is Antti "Hyrde" Hyyrynen, known from the band Stam1na, who envisions a revamped version of the venue, branding it as Nuija 2.0. Hyyrynen is enthusiastic about the venture, believing that the filled event calendar will help keep their mission alive despite the inherent challenges of running a business in the cultural sector.
