Wkra overflowed. Further warnings from IMGW
Flooding in the Wkra River has led to the deployment of 18 fire units in Błędowo, Poland, due to an ice jam causing significant overflow.
In Błędowo, a village in the Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki district, emergency services are actively managing flooding caused by an ice jam on the Wkra River. The situation escalated around 5 PM when authorities received reports of water overflowing its banks. Fortunately, floodwaters have only affected surrounding fields and recreational areas, inundating 24 nearby properties without causing injuries to residents.
The flooding has prompted a significant response, with 18 fire vehicles and 65 firefighters on the scene to stabilize the situation. Marcin Kierwiński, the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA), visited the site to oversee the response efforts and assess the damage. The local community remains on alert as further warnings for rising temperatures have been issued, which could potentially exacerbate the flooding issue.
Officials have confirmed that while emergency measures are underway, the residential areas have remained safe from direct water exposure. The rise in temperatures predicted later in the week could lead to further risks if the river's conditions do not improve. Therefore, residents are being advised to stay vigilant as the situation develops, and emergency services continue to monitor the river's status closely.
