This decision, made public by the Blue House spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung, reflects President Lee's intention to show the public his commitment to revitalizing the real estate market, as he had previously emphasized the importance of stabilizing housing markets in his tenure. In the past, President Lee had listed the same apartment for sale in 2022 when he ran for a parliamentary by-election, pricing it about 100 million won lower than the prevailing rates at that time. However, despite the lowered price, the apartment remained unsold due to high market listings that exceeded the mortgage limit of 1.5 billion won and a subsequent decrease in buyer interest caused by interest rate hikes. The spokesperson further pointed out that President Lee’s current listing price is lower than both last year's transaction values and the current market prices, signaling a more proactive approach towards real estate normalization amidst growing concerns over the housing market in South Korea.
