Enrollment in Schools and Kindergartens – Through One System in 24 Municipalities
Lithuania is implementing a centralized application system for school and kindergarten enrollment across 24 municipalities for the 2026-2027 academic year.
This year, applications for enrollment into educational institutions in 24 municipalities for the 2026-2027 academic year will be processed through the newly created Centralized Education Program Admission Information System (CPIS). This system is being piloted from March this year in several municipalities including Akmenė, Anykščiai, Biržai, among others, with plans to include more municipalities, including large cities, in later phases. This initiative aims to streamline enrollment processes, which have previously been diverse and decentralized, allowing for greater efficiency and accessibility in the future.
The introduction of the CPIS marks a significant first step in a national project that aims to create a unified online application platform by 2028. This platform will encompass all state and municipal educational institutions, both general and pre-school education facilities. The previous system, where individual municipalities maintained separate application procedures, has often led to confusion and inconsistency for parents and guardians looking to enroll their children in schools or kindergartens.
By establishing a centralized system, the Lithuanian government is seeking to enhance transparency and fairness in the enrollment process, ensuring that all families have equal access to educational opportunities across the country. This approach is expected to ease administrative burdens on local authorities, ultimately leading to an improved educational landscape for future generations in Lithuania.
